Hello, Mexzine friends!
I’ve always felt like Puerto Escondido is the place to go for a reset. It’s where I traveled with my friends before moving to New York for grad school; where I went for a yoga retreat after quitting my longtime magazine job; and where I escaped for a solo trip after a bad breakup. Maybe it’s the chill, surfer vibes; the power of the Pacific, or the fact that there aren’t any large resorts or chain restaurants (yet). Come to think of it, maybe it’s the mezcal. Whatever it is, Puerto never fails to provide a breezy escape from it all, and we’ve chosen a few spots that capture its magic perfectly.
Let’s go!

Where to Stay
Casona Sforza // Designed by Mexican architect Alberto Kalach, this stunning adult-only property maximizes ocean views and fresh breeze with its iconic series of brick arches and vaults, equally harmonious and photogenic. Earthy hues and features like private pools or airy terraces make each suite a serene refuge, yet there are plenty of excuses to head outside, from the lounge chair-lined pool to the secluded beach. Find balance with a sound healing session or a massage, and end your day with dinner at the excellent La Bóveda.
Casa To // Tucked in a quiet street in the lively Brisas de Zicatela, this Brutalist dream was conceived by Ludwig Godefroy as a reimagined Oaxacan temple. Within its concrete walls and cave-like structures, each corner invites peaceful contemplation. The suites are equally soothing, with high ceilings, minimal decor, and quiet, private gardens. Upstairs, Glou Glou serves fresh, locally-inspired fare paired with a beautiful selection of organic and natural wines, courtesy of Chef Luis Pabón and sommelier Gabriela Moreno.
